F.A.Q. about Homeopathy

Q: What is homeopathy?

A: Homeopathy (home-ee-ah-path-ee) is a form of holistic medicine that considers the whole person when understanding states of health and disease. Homeopathy acts at an energetic level, therefore it has a broad effect; shifting mental, emotional and physical symptoms.

Q: What is the “whole” person?

A: The term whole person refers to the understanding that your body, mind and emotions work as a unified whole. In homeopathy, complete understanding of health and disease states will necessarily include these different facets of your being. In other words, the homeopath views disease as condition of the entire individual rather than in terms of isolated symptoms. Remedies are then selected that best correspond to the total state of illness.

Q: What are homeopathic remedies?

A: Remedies are derived from the plant, mineral and animal kingdoms, just as occurs with prescription medicines. The process of making a remedy is very different, however. By repeatedly diluting and shaking the source material in water, potential side effects are neutralized, and other healing properties are brought out that help at the mental and emotional levels.

“I am convinced that listening beyond the chief complaint is the most effective, quickest, and least costly way to get to the bottom of most medical problems … Some of the most challenging medical problems I have encountered could be solved only through information provided by the patient.”
Bernard Lown, MD, developer of the modern defibrillator

Q: What is the process?

A: The homeopathic process is both simple and noninvasive. It begins with an initial consultation and continues with follow-up visits every few months to have your progress monitored. In the interview between you and the homeopath, you are the expert on the problem—because you’re the person experiencing it–and the homeopath works to very precisely match your global experience of the problem with a homeopathic remedy. The initial adult consultation usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours.

“Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

Q: How do remedies work?

A: Unlike prescription medicines, homeopathic remedies do not act in a “coercive way—that is, they do not force change upon your system. Rather, they’re very precisely matched to each individual– informing your system what it’s been doing in its “stuck stress state”—physically, mentally and emotionally—and the price that comes with your chronic stress reaction. The homeopathic approach provokes your very deep and intrinsic capacities for self-correction and self-healing.

Homeopathy is wholly capable of satisfying the therapeutic demands of this age better than any other system or school of medicine.”
